Important: Open-Xchange has added support for the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer 8. At the same time, we will discontinue our support of the outdated Internet Explorer 6, though we will continue to fix bugs in the category "blockers" and "critical" for Internet Explorer 6 until April 30, 2010. Starting with the next major release, version 6.10, new features of Open-Xchange Server will only be optimized for Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8 - as well as other browsers, like Firefox and Safari. As users of Internet Explorer 6 will not benefit from new features in Open-Xchange, we encourage you to update to the latest browser technology.
More in Detail
- Virtualisation
The Open-Xchange Server Edition is generally executable in various virtual environments like Xen, VMware, VirtualBox, etc. As a prerequisite the supported operating systems have to be used: Debian 4.0 (Etch), Debian 5.0 (Lenny), SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- Java
Since Open-Xchange is developed in Java 1.5, the Sun Java 5 Runtime Environment (JRE) to run Open-Xchange is mandatory. It is highly recommended to use the Sun Java distribution and no other implementations like Blackdown or Kaffe. The Debian operating system does not ship the Java JRE/JDK packages in the "main" distribution caused by license restrictions. The default way to install the Sun JRE/JDK on Debian is to modify the Debian repository source file and add the "non-free" repository to enable access.
- MySQL Database
Open-Xchange Server Edition or Open-Xchange Hosting Edition requires MySQL 5 or later to work properly
- Apache Webserver
The Apache Webserver will provide the communication between the users client, such as a Browser or various WebDAV Clients and the Open-Xchange Server Edition or Open-Xchange Hosting Edition. Apache is primarily used to deliver the AJAX GUI, but extending it by the AJP13 implementation "mod_proxy", it will also enable servlet communication with the groupware server which is the key to all interactive functionality.
- IMAP Server
The Open-Xchange Server Edition or Open-Xchange Hosting Edition requires a working IMAP backend and supports a wide range of common IMAP servers (Cyrus, Courier and Dovecot).
- SMTP Server
The Open-Xchange Server Edition or Open-Xchange Hosting Edition requires a working SMTP service. There are currently no known limitations.
