The following data types are currently supported by the Data Migration Tools: users, groups, resources, folders, tasks, calendars, contacts, attachments, documents, bookmarks, knowledge items.

Open-Xchange Data Migration Tools - Disclaimer

With more than 3,500 installationsOpen-Xchange is the most popular groupware for Linux. Open-Xchange Server 6 now sets new standards in functionality and user comfort. The Open-Xchange Data Migration Tools allow customers using the previous Open-Xchange Products to transfer their data. Please notice the following details concerning the usage of the Open-Xchange Data Migration Tools.

Please read the detail information

With OX6, Open-Xchange provides a new product line with essential functional enhancements. Though not all of the OX5 functions are covered; some behavior has changed. There is e.g. no project management in OX6 and no linking between groupware objects. According to the licence agreements, Open-Xchange explicitly does not grant that the functionality meets the customer needs. To test the suitability of OX6, Open-Xchange provides free evaluation licences to their customers and partners. This enables you to check whether the new software is suited for your environment.

The software described in this guide includes tools for transferring data from an OX5 installation and into a fresh OX6 installation. OX5 and OX6 are different systems with different architectures, different feature sets and different data properties. Open-Xchange explicitely does not guarantee a 100% system migration, but provides free tools for transferring the most significant groupware data.

Each migration is different and depends on a variety of conditions not under Open-Xchange's control, like previously installed versions, installed add-ons, or connected 3rd party systems. The tools provided cover essential parts but not 100% of the needs. Despite comprehensive tests, Open-Xchange does not grant completeness and correctness of the transferred data. It is strongly recommended that you verify the correctness and completeness with a trial migration before going into production with the transferred data.

After performing a data transfer, it will *not* be possible to start another transfer to take over differences in to a running OX6 system (delta migration). To take over new data or modifications from OX5 you need to perform a data transfer from scratch. Changes made in the OX6 system will then be lost.

Open-Xchange advises to conduct test migrations and test the transferred data for completeness and correctness before taking migrated data into production. The log files of test migration provide you with valuable hints about which data could not be transferred. . It is the sole responsibility of the customer:

  • to perform backups prior to transferring any data
  • to test the new feature set of the new system for suitability prior to production
  • to test transferred data for completeness and correctness prior to production
Open-Xchange recommends seeking support for migration projects from a trained migration partner.
